In Praise Of Ann
(originally published June 13, 2006)
(originally published June 13, 2006)
The mighty Greek Olympian goddess Pallas Athena sprang--fully armed-- from the very mind of Zeus.
She is the goddess of the Arts & Crafts.
And of Wisdom.
Yet she is also the warrior goddess, and could best her male counterpart--Ares, the very god of war himself-- in a fight, any day and anywhere, sending him off defeated and howling in short order.
She had no husband, yet stood tall, proud, and undaunted in the "Man's World" of Olympus, and won her own city in a contest of practical ingenuity against the mighty sea-god.
That is Ann Coulter, a women who--by her brains-- went to law school in the days when the field was very much dominated by males.
Standing on her own, she is a woman who intrepidly spoke Truth to vicious political power, unveiling the character of a sitting, liberal president known for his far-reaching, destructive vindictiveness--especially towards "trouble-making" women.
She is a woman who--on her own-- detoxified and refreshed an entire culture poisoned by liberalism, herself resetting the record straight by boldly slashing and overwriting decades of revisionism, as scribbled by entire armies of liberal liars.
She is a woman who, by reading books, by empirical observation, by her own busy hands and keystroking fingers, by her own talent, by the fire of her own creativity--again, by her brains-- became a self-made millionaire.
She is a woman who fearlessly speaks her mind.
She is a woman who emasculates men who try to bully her.
She chides other women for forsaking their femininity and betraying their womanhood.
She is a strong woman who fights back like a valkyrie against the seething, wailing hordes of liberal demons and harpies, who claw and gnash their teeth at her, trying to discredit and silence her, and destroy her.
And all along she is a woman who is unafraid, and laughs, because she knows.
She knows.
She dances in a ring of fire
and throws off the challenge with a shrug.
Jim Morrison
And the liberal feminists hate such a woman.
Go figure...

Pallas Athena - the Greeks (contemporary) compare Hillary to her.
"There are many lessons to be learned from what we’ve experienced. We have learned that America must go to war with clearly defined goals, which is why I’ve ordered a review of our policy in Afghanistan. We have learned that we must always weigh the costs of action, and communicate those costs candidly to the American people, which is why I’ve put Iraq and Afghanistan into my budget. We have learned that in the 21st century, we must use all elements of American power to achieve our objectives, which is why I am committed to building our civilian national security capacity so that the burden is not continually pushed on to our military. We have learned that our political leaders must pursue the broad and bipartisan support that our national security policies depend upon, which is why I will consult with Congress and in carrying out my plans. And we have learned the importance of working closely with friends and allies, which is why we are launching a new era of engagement in the world."
~Pres Obama
OBama is offering the GOP a face saving way out of Iraq.
Now, all we need is Cheney in the Hague and we can "move on."
Anonymous smirked:
"Pallas Athena - the Greeks (contemporary) compare Hillary to her."
The "contemporary Greeks" are socialist/communists and the cradle of democracy is now paying the price for its "malice toward none" attitude towards the murderous asshole leftists after pasting them (thanks to Truman's Marshall Plan) in the postwar civil war. Instead of driving a stake through their collective heart, it gave them seats in parliament where they still work their anarchic mischief.
Anonymous obsequiously cut & pasted parts of an Obama speech:
"There are many lessons to be learned from what we’ve experienced. We have learned that America must go to war with clearly defined goals."
Right. The way al Qaeda and its Taliban host government in Afghanistan were decimated and demolished and replaced with a constitutional government, and why Iraq is now a functioning constitutional republic with less murders than Chicago, both in rather short order.
"...which is why I’ve ordered a review of our policy in Afghanistan."
Because we've met our clearly defined goals (i.e. Mission Accomplished).
"We have learned that we must always weigh the costs of action, and communicate those costs candidly to the American people..."
Yeah, sure. Just like you did with the stimulus, Sugar Daddy.
"...which is why I’ve put Iraq and Afghanistan into my budget."
lol He means: "Which is why I'm not immediately withdrawing from the "failed" and "expensive" Iraqi
theater as I promised, and will even green light a surge in Afghanistan so we Democrats can boast about being victorious in war, too--like Falstaff stealing a dagger from a soldier's corpse, stabbing the stiff, and then bragging that he killed it in battle. That's what he thinks.
"...We have learned that in the 21st century, we must use all elements of American power to achieve our objectives, which is why I am committed to building our civilian national security capacity..."
Say what?
"...so that the burden is not continually pushed on to our military."
Okay, after realizing--Surprise-- that the hopenchanger is indeed just another old socialist with much more Marx in his philosophical repertoire than Smith, after all, those familiar with authoritarian histories are understandably wary of a new "civilian security force" (what, aren't the police, the FBI, the National Guard, and the Dept. of Homeland Security good enough?), mindful of how one's neighbors become paid government informants in those situations, and with visions of the Nation of Islam footsoldiers roaming the Red State streets and squares with baseball bats to quell mass, tax-revolting protests dancing in their heads.
But that's just being paranoid (and, of course Islamophobic/racist).
As Lee Cary at the most excellent blog *American Thinker* wrote:
"Barack Obama's recent words to promote his image as Community Organizer in Chief were not about forming a paramilitary force of volunteer brown shirts. They were about turning America into one, giant, community organizer's sandbox at enormous cost to taxpayers.
...
The immediate context for that amazing statement was a preview of parts of his plan to vastly expand community service opportunities for Americans of nearly all ages. He said,
'People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve.'
...
He plans to double the Peace Corps' budget by 2011, and expand AmeriCorps, USA Freedom Corps, VISTA, YouthBuild Program, and the Senior Corps. Plus, he proposes to form a Classroom Corps, Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, Veterans Corps, Homeland Security Corps, Global Energy Corps, and a Green Jobs Corps. Here a corps - there a corps - everywhere a corps corps."
ACORN is sure to be in there somewhere.
Government will be everywhere, doing everything.
"We have learned that our political leaders must pursue the broad and bipartisan support that our national security policies depend upon..."
Duh, yeah, from 2500 years of experience (in Western democracies, anyway).
And it was in that fine, Western tradition that Bush addressed the American people, received authorization from Congress, support from foreign nations, and--what the hell--even presented his case to the barbaric UN assembly.
"...which is why I will consult with Congress and in carrying out my plans."
Just like Bush did. (First.)
"And we have learned the importance of working closely with friends and allies..."
Right. He learned that from Bush--if not 2,500 years of warfare in the Western world.
Obama's spellbound audience is comprised of simpletons.
"...which is why we are launching a new era of engagement in the world."
lol
Where has he been? We have corporations in China and India, provided billions in tsunami relief to Indonesia, billions in AIDS relief in Africa, and we have military bases and divisions in the heart of the Middle East.
The people of Italy, France, Germany, and Canada--who, supposedly, Bush "recklessly offended" with our "unilateral" invasion of Iraq-- elected pro-American, conservative governments
before Bush left office.
Only in America have the insurgent Left been able to make their last stand after they had their clocks cleaned--by America!-- everywhere else (except Cuba and Venezuela).
So there was nothing "new" at all about that speech, except the way the Left now listens to a POTUS with rapt, awestruck attention and quote his words like priests quoting the infallible Jesus Christ, except they're really dimwitted devotees who interpreted the speech to mean:
"OBama is offering the GOP a face saving way out of Iraq."
That's insane. It's the inversion of that, with a twist: Obama is trying to save his own face by offering excuses to his demented base about why he is not only continuing Bush's Iraq policy and allowing it to run its course, but escalating combat in Afghanistan (and last time anyone checked, bin Laden wasn't there, either).
"Now, all we need is Cheney in the Hague and we can 'move on.'"
All you need is a lobotomy and you could put yourself out of your misery be doing anyone who listens to your imbecilic drivel a favor.
Dismissed.
John, your latest comment is unhinged. You should refrain from blogging for a while. Also - when you copy losers like Joe the non-plumber and start calling Obama a socialist, you sound foolish and ill-infornmed.
Obama's overall program is well to right of the conservative party program of Angela Merkle in Germany. It's not close to the kind of socialism that you get in an SD party in Germany, Greece, or Israel.
"He plans to double the Peace Corps' budget by 2011, and expand AmeriCorps, USA Freedom Corps, VISTA, YouthBuild Program, and the Senior Corps. Back before I started up Res Civitatis I posted something on this at Paperclippings. It was what prompted me to start Res Civ along with another one of our dear friends.
Obama- Mandatory "Service" (and it begins) November 7, 2008.
BTW: GO ANN
John, looking at some of your older posts i see you say your are Christian.
We'll you should read some Flanner O'Conner (she was an American novelist before your time).
She wrote of smugness as the reigning sin of the modern faithful.
Your posts are getting rather smug and your comments do not reflect your better angels.
"John, your latest comment is unhinged."
Thus Spake The Sage Anonymous.
"You should refrain from blogging for a while."
Make me.
"Also - when you copy losers like Joe the non-plumber..."
"Non-plumber"? Oh, right, non-unionized.
"...and start calling Obama a socialist, you sound foolish and ill-infornmed."
To who? The insane? He's not a socialist only by your even farther left communist standards.
Communist countries like to call themselves "socialist," or "democratic socialist," or "socialist republics," or somesuch combination, but never communist!
And socialist countries call themselves democracies, or republics, but never socialists.
Likewise, this bozette thinks left-of-center systems are centered, or right-of-center, all because her position deep in left field orients everything to her right, and that's why normal, conservative Americans are "right-wing Christo-fascist extremists."
"Obama's overall program is well to right of the conservative party program of Angela Merkle in Germany."
"Well to the right" my left foot. Obama's "overall program"--the spending bill was only the first phase of it blitzkrieged through in his first month of office--will be kissing cousins with EU models.
And don't blame Merkle for inheriting a socialist system that's doing a lot worse--across the EU--than the "catastrophe" here.
"It's not close to the kind of socialism that you get in an SD party in Germany, Greece, or Israel."
"SD"? Oh, right, "socialist DEMOCRACY."
Well, at least you didn't say "regulated capitalism."
Buh-bye now. Don't forget to wear your snowshoes for the global warming protest today.
Oh, wait, I think it got canceled (because of the foot of snowfall in early March).
Thank you Kelly. Information is the best weapon against disinformation.

I'm smug? Excuse me, but have you been paying attention?
And you don't perform an exorcism by constantly turning the other cheek and hope that the devil's arm gets tired.
"Yeah - I'm sure Jim Morrison would luv you linking him to Coulter."
She would have been a lot better for him than that witch he married, that's for damn sure.
"I met that keyboardist for the Doors in Boston a few years ago."
Ray Manzarek. Awesome.
"He would be both amused and appalled by your post."
Wait until he sees my next one.
"re Pallas Athena - Thomas Jefferson wrote that he regarded the Virgin Mary as a Jewish version of the Athena myth."
So?
Besides, if TJ knew anything about Catholicism, he'd know that the Madonna had a lot more in common with Gaia than Athena.
"Maybe he got the idea from Sally Hemings."
Oh, right, "Black Athena."
I really don't think that Jefferson--or Hemmings, for that matter--were Black Liberation Theologists.
Global warming denial seems to be something you stepped in.
Dubya strikes again today - Dow down below 1000.
I just got my statement - George Soros (a leading investor who did more to win the cold war than any American since Nixon) agress with Buffett's assessment for '09
I suppose you think America's two leading capitalists are socialists too. They both supported Obama and helped the volunteers raise money.
I see CNBC still has that delusional Rick Santelli on TV - Geithner should revoke TARP money for GE until they get that clown off CNBC
"Global warming denial seems to be something you stepped in."
The denial is your own. Why don't you come over here and grab a snow shovel.
"Dubya strikes again today - Dow down below 1000."
lol Denial. The Dow drops everytime Obama opens his mouth.
"I just got my statement - George Soros (a leading investor who did more to win the cold war than any American since Nixon)..."
lol
You're dismissed.
Yeah - Ray Manzarek. You looked that up on wikipedia?
George Will, it seems, is embroild in a scandal of sorts, due to some factual inaccuracies in a global warming denial column.
Update:
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh030209.shtml
OMG - Imagine if Gore won (actually, he did win) in 2000 - No debt, no war, no 9/11 and we would be ahead of Europe on climate issues.
Elections matter (even when they are stolen).
"Why don't you come over here and grab a snow shovel."
You're making a Palin-esque mistake - You are confusing "climate" (earth temperature) with "weather" (what you see out your window)
You don't have to be Al Gore to benefit from Gore.
Recall the year the Nobel committee smiled on the USA - The year Gore won, the US had 14 other prize winners.
Global warming deniers in Europe (some who also Holocaust deniers) said the Gore win was just an attempt to curry favor with America.
But since that time, Gore has recruited just about every educated Republican to the cause. Even the notorious swift-boat funder Boone Pickens. (Pickens still will do some time in hell for that).
More from Dubya:

Did you read the NYT piece today on AIG?
Elliot Spitzer almost stopped that mess before it exploded.
Obama is gonna have to work miracles to clean up the mess Bush left - 5 trillion in debt for nuthin but a failed war policy and more poverty and no health care.
Hilarious:

One thing that really made our office laugh was Santelli trying to cast himself and his pals as a cross-section of the USA, but then he admitted being a Randite (a follower of the writer Ayn Rand).
The Rand thing explained his contemp for poor people, but a typical American is not an elitist CNBC yapper on welfare (Tarp money) .
LOL
hahahahahahha
You can't make this shit up...too hilarious:
Steele Takes On Rush Limbaugh: "Ugly," "Incendiary" (VIDEO)
March 2, 2009 01:47 PM
Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele took umbrage Saturday night when CNN's D.L. Hughley referred to radio host Rush Limbaugh as "the de facto leader of the Republican party."
"No he's not. I'm the de facto leader of the Republican party," Steele said. The RNC chief went on to call Limbaugh, who that very day delivered the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, a mere "entertainer" whose show is "incendiary" and "ugly."
On his radio show today, Limbaugh fired back, calling the RNC and Michael Steele "so-called Republicans" and saying that they "need a little leadership."
"So I am an entertainer and I have 20 million listeners because of my great song and dance routine," Limbaugh said. "Michael Steele, you are head of the Republican National Committee. You are not head of the Republican party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the Republican National Committee...and when you call them asking for money, they hang up on you."
"I hope that changes," Limbaugh continued. "It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of being some talking-head media star."
Yep, cleaning up the housing mess that the Clinton Congress left Bush would take trillions and years... but Obama isn't going to do that. He's already out and on the record making it worse.
But then, there has YET to be a Democrat capable of solving ANY problems, social or financial. They keep forcing us to "progress" closer and closer to the cliff's edge.
