President Obama took the first key step in restoring America's image and credibility in the world by issuing an Executive Order to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay and to prohibit the use of torture by U.S. personnel. I applaud his judgment and I wholeheartedly support this decision. The Bush administration never understood what the Guantanamo detention facility symbolized to the rest of the world. With the characteristic moral blindness of the right, they saw it as simply a prison, and just weeks ago, Dick Cheney commented that he thought "Guantanamo has been very well run." The problem with Guantanamo was never about its bricks and mortar. The problem with Guantanamo is that its very existence stains and defies the moral fiber of our great nation.

That is an arguable point, I suppose. In past wars we had camps here in the US for combatants that had been captured fighting our forces. You want them to go back home so they can shoot more UN troops in Afghanistan, perhaps?
I will be interested to see what Obama wishes done with them. What I am not clear on is where, exactly, he thinks they are going to be after Guantanamo goes away?

The irony of this is that I know people in Europe that are VERY concerned about where these terrorists are going to go, but few on the left here care about the lives of innocents in other countries.
They will not care again until some of these very people come back and commit another atrocity here within our shores, and then, you can bet the farm, they will go through another couple of months caring about US security. Ye-haaa! Go America! But if it requires the actions of real men and women to defend our shores and the cause of freedom, that will only last again a short time. Because they have not been attacked, the presupposition is that 9/11 was some kind of freak accident and that Islam will NOW really love us, in spite of 50 years of previous evidence to the contrary.

NRCC Already Screwing Up Campaign

The NRCC, no longer under the watchful eye of the disgraced Tom Cole, has started off the Pete Sessions Era with a whole box of fail.
The Fighting Elephants began their campaign to regain the Republican majority by sending out a press release positively savaging several freshmen Democrats for voting to release the remaining $350 million of the TARP funds.
Here's an excerpt from one of them:
Washington- In a brazen act of sheer cowardice, Rep. Parker Griffith (D-AL) broke one of his biggest campaign promises only weeks after being sworn into Congress. In Washington today, Congress voted on releasing the remaining $350 billion from the Troubled Assets Relief Program, paving the way for the second part of the financial bailout to be handed out.
Unfortunately for our elephantine friends, they did this yesterday. And the House didn't vote on the TARP funds until today.
The National Republican Congressional Committee on Wednesday issued a news release accusing Markey of "a brazen act of sheer cowardice" in her Wednesday vote, saying she broke a campaign promise to oppose the financial bailout.
However, the NRCC release incorrectly stated the Wednesday vote was "on releasing the remaining $350 billion from the Troubled Assets Relief Program," apparently confusing it with the bill the House has yet to vote on. Similar releases were sent to media in other House districts the Republicans are targeting in 2010.
Perhaps the Republicans should read more Congress Matters.
So, what actually happened when the House did vote on the TARP funds?
Well, as it turns out, every Democrat the NRCC targeted with their release voted for the "TARP disapproval" bill, blocking the release of the second $350 million. That included the following Democrats:
John Boccieri (OH-16); Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-03); Parker Griffith (AL-05); Dan Maffei (NY-25); Betsy Markey (CO-04); Eric Massa (NY-29); Glenn Nye (VA-02); Tom Perriello (VA-05); Chellie Pingree (ME-01); Kurt Schrader (OR-05); Harry Teague (NM-02); Dina Titus (NV-03).
So, the Elephants send out a press release a day early, before the vote actually occurs, and when it does occur, it turns out everything in the press release is dead wrong.

It was a shameless orgy that publicly gangbanged the word "lie" to make it submit to them and become pliable and susceptible to anything they wanted.
The poor slut is now quite applicable to Obama himself who, in his Inaugural Address--which is kind of like a first SOTU address--said that he was the 44th person to take the Oath, which--because of #22 & #24 Cleveland--is not true. He's the 43rd. So he made mistatement. No, he tiold a falsehood. No, he lied. He's a liar. He's the Liar-In-Chief. He's the misleader. He's a lying liar who tells lies. He should be impeached.
But no. The lascivious word "lie" is now locked up in a cage and can only be released under the strictest supervision.
They're insane.
And they did precisely the same thing to the word "torture."
Meanwhile, their sadistic, harassing nature here tells you exactly what they would do to prisoners (if they were personally in power and they thought they could get away with it, and the prisoners were, of course, right wingers, particularly those who are caucasian and Christian).

The Republican, who retired from the Legislature in July after more than a dozen years leading the Senate, was charged in an eight-count indictment by the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York.
The indictment says Bruno used his office to defraud the people of New York from 1993 through at least 2006.
Bruno revealed more than a year ago that his private business dealings had been under investigation by the FBI for months. He has insisted that he did nothing wrong.
A spokesman says Bruno will comment after court proceedings Friday in Albany.
Bruno represented his Troy, N.Y.-area district for 32 years.
