The Dow Jones industrial average declined 213.72 points, or 1.96 percent, at 10,666.99. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 23.74 points, or 1.85 percent, at 1,261.30. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index tumbled 54.21 points, or 2.36 percent, at 2,247.60.

For the week, the Dow fell 2.7 percent, the S&P 500 slid 1.9 percent and Nasdaq declined 2.85 percent.
